Sally, nice to “meet” you and to learn from your striking image that what I photographed in my own back yard indeed is a hairy woodpecker. I had thought that, but needed confirmation, so I am indebted to you. looks like you have a wonderful welcoming place for the avian community. I, too, am a Nikon photographer-writer based in Centreville, VA now concentrating on motion studies of flying (mostly) birds.
